SHPE Newsletter: 3rd Issue

¡Bienvenidos! Welcome!

In our third semesterly newsletter, you’ll find out about the exciting new initiatives our chapter has launched this semester. From our lively Silent Disco that brought a ton of noise to campus, to our week-long celebration marking 50 years of SHPE, and our Noche de Ciencias program held off campus for the first time in years!

Continuing this trend of bringing in new ideas, we’re excited to introduce our new executive board for the 2024/2025 school year! Learn about their goals as our chapter continues to make a positive impact on our members, campus, and community.

Silent Disco

This semester, SHPE brought a ton of noise to campus with our Silent Disco – get it? Teaming up with NSBE, we danced the night away while supporting aSTEAM Village in KC, a foundation devoted to inspiring K-12 students to dive into STEM. With headphones on, everyone danced to beats from our three DJs. It was our standout event this semester, and we’re eager to make it an annual tradition, bringing us closer as a familia while inspiring the next generation of STEM.

Company Presentations

This semester, SHPE hosted three companies: Hussmann, PENTA, and the United States Army Corp of Engineers (USACE). Hussmann presented to both our chapter and NSBE about resume do’s and dont’s just in time for the spring career fair. Frank Benevides of PENTA, an alum of S&T’s Civil Engineering program, shared valuable advice to our members based on his experiences as a Hispanic in STEM. And USACE presented on work life balance while sharing their opportunities for full time employment and internships.
